Shimizu Minato Festival

清水みなと祭り③

Highlights

This historic event is held every year for three days from the first Friday to Sunday in August around JR Shimizu Station and Hinode Pier. The highlight of the event is the Minato Kappore So-Odori, a powerful dance performance by a total of 20,000 people along Satsuki Street (4.2km round trip) from JR Shimizu Station to the Minato Bridge. The parade and the fireworks display at sea on the last day of the festival are the pride of the local community, where citizens, music, tradition, the port, and lights all come together. The fireworks display, with its huge flowers blooming in the night sky, the "dream fireworks" created by children from the public, and 10,000 fireworks going off into the sea in 60 minutes, is sure to give you a sense of realism and port atmosphere.
