Tenka Taihei no Takeakari

天下泰平の竹あかり②

Highlights

Located on the border between Suruga Ward and Shimizu Ward in Shizuoka City, Kunozan Toshogu Shrine is a national treasure dedicated to Ieyasu Tokugawa, located in the hilly Nihondaira area around the 307-meter-high Mt. Udo. Every year, a special nighttime viewing event is held under the title of Tenka Taihei no Takeakari (“The Bambo Lights of World Peace”). The area around the shrine is also known as part of Japan 100 Moon, offering a splendid night view of the city of Shimizu, the orange glitter of Shimizu Port, and the distant mountains of Mt. Fuji and the Izu Peninsula. The illuminated buildings in the precincts and the soft bamboo lights are solemn and fantastic, creating an extraordinary space as if you have traveled back in time.
